Members of Ad Hoc at St.Martin’s Burns Night event

Since its formation in 2011, members of local band Ad Hoc have been (not so) quietly raising money for various charities. Made up of musicians from Stockport’s Accordion Club and friends from St. Chad’s in Romiley, they are ably assisted by Mike Powell of Marple in his role as Caller. The band’s name reflects the variety of instruments the members use, including accordion, concertina, fiddle, whistle, guitar and bodhrán (an Irish frame drum).

Over the years, the band has been engaged to provide many a fun-filled Ceilidh occasion at celebrations and fund-raising events. The band’s wide range of dance tunes means that the combination of music and dancing can be adapted to suit any level of ability and mixed age groups, catering for the energy levels of all participants. An accordion trio from the band also gives less boisterous performances at other venues, such as afternoon teas and retirement homes.

After insurance costs have been covered, the rest of the band’s and trio’s fees are donated to a variety of local and national charities. The musical entertainment provided by the combined musical efforts of Ad Hoc and the trio has enabled them to donate a sum approaching £6,000 over the last six years.

If you would like to brush up on your technique before your next Ceilidh night, Mike would be pleased to see you at the dance classes he runs at 2pm on Thursday afternoons in the church hall at St. Martin’s Church, Low Marple. For further information, give Mike a call on 01614495390.
