Spring is perhaps the best time to visit the garden at Gamesley Fold Cottage. The vibrant bloom of thriving plant life contrasts dramatically with the emerald vista of the Peak District basking under the warm spring sun, which surrounds this tranquil spot on the outskirts of Glossop.

However,  this pretty, floral haven is fairly easy to miss. When driving down the A626 towards Glossop, after going through Charlesworth and reaching Gamesley, take a left hand turn down a small lane until you come to a tiny hamlet of houses, known as Gamesley Fold. The characterful white cottage, which dates to 1650, on the far right, is Gamesley Fold Cottage, home to a stunning garden of natural splendour.

On certain days and times, visitors can stroll round Gamesley Fold Cottage at their leisure, as a beautifully-maintained lawn and winding paths meander round a mirage of stunning native wild flowers and herbs, growing alongside an enviable collection of cottage garden plants.

Florets of colour from pastel purple heathers, fiery rhododendrons of scarlet red, cascades of Japonica camellia in cheerful pink, clusters of dainty forget me knots, and a maze of bluebells, primroses, cowslips, alliums, habranthus, camassia and many more floral delights, mix together with ox-eye daisy and thalictrum, crafting a mesmerising garden, bursting with life.

Gamesley Fold Cottage is a member of the National Open Garden Scheme Charitable Trust (NGS). Thanks to the likes of Gamesley Fold Cottage opening their garden to the public, over the last 90 years the NGS has raised more than £50m for charities across the UK. In 2016, the NGS donated a record amount of £2.7m to different charities, including Marie Curie, Hospice UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, and many more.

Gamesley Gardens has two forthcoming open days, where visitors can enjoy homemade teas and meandering round the garden. A large collection of plants will be on sale at the Cottage to help raise more funds for the NGS.

The open days are taking place on Sunday 28th May and Sunday 25th June, from 1 until 4 in the afternoon. Admission costs £2.50 for adults and is free for children.
