Guest of honour Rebecca Adlington re-opens Mill Brow Recreation Ground

Double Olympic Gold Medallist Rebecca Adlington was the Guest of Honour at the re-opening of the Mill Brow Recreation Ground in May. The last pieces of play equipment had been deemed unsafe by the council and the children’s park faced closure until the local community sprang into action.

A ‘Save the Rec’ campaign was launched quickly gaining widespread support with around £20,000 made through donations and fund-raising. The council then acknowledged the important role of the park and helped with the provision of new play equipment.

Around 250 people including many children ,watched Rebecca cut a ribbon to declare the park re-opened and then she enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities but sadly failed to win gold in the egg and spoon race !!

The day raised a further £500 towards the development of the park with the plan to bring in some picnic tables and additional fencing.

The Chair of the Save Rec group Jacqui Terry said “The people of Mill Brow and beyond did us proud. This is a wonderful facility for our children and for future generations”.
