Superfoods Flaxseed Almonds Oats Mangoes Prunes Canned tomatoes

Researchers in the United States are promoting six ‘superfoods’ for the over-60s:

  1. Flaxseed ­– a great source of fibre and omega-3 fatty acids, flaxseed has been shown in studies to lower cholesterol levels.
  2. Almonds – these nuts contain vitamin E, zinc and magnesium – all essential for bone density.
  3. Oats – the fibre in plain oatmeal can help lower your level of  ‘bad’ cholesterol.
  4. Mangoes – the large amount of antioxidants, fibre, and potassium make this fruit a super-healthy choice.
  5. Prunes – give your metabolism a boost with these super-high-fibre fruits.
  6. Canned tomatoes – lycopene, found in tomatoes, can decrease your risk of getting several forms of cancer.
